It’s hard not to feel like a princess or a VIP when you step past the uniformed footmen at the grand entrance of the world-renowned Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin, Ireland. The minute our car pulled in, valets swooped down to take our boxes of book swag and luggage. My companions, fellow HarperImpulse author Carmel Harrington and dear friend and FOCAL Wexford Literary Festival chair Maria Nolan, seemed perfectly at ease. Holding my head high, I followed their lead and chose to ignore the butterflies in my stomach.
Inside the grand ballroom, authors and assistants bustled to set up. Did they all know one another? I felt like the new girl in school. When I laid eyes on my badge and welcome bag, I finally relaxed. I belonged!
When my table mate, author Aiofe Brennan AKA Jillian Godsil arrived, the fun began. We chatted like old friends, and set up our spaces to prepare for the readers and fans. –
